“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
— Philippians 2:5-11
It really is a joke to try and use the name of Jesus, especially in spiritual warfare, without exhibiting the same kind of humility and submission Christ exhibited.
No wonder other translations use the word ‘should’ to denote the response to the use of The Name.
No wonder the Apostle starts the section by saying that we should have the same mind as was in Christ. That mind that counts self, position, and privilege as nothing, but is completely submitted and obedient to the will and purposes of God, the Father.
Submission is key to the use of The Name.
Submission resulted in the name being exalted in the first place. The knees will start bowing and tongues confessing when the same mind and attitude which was found in Christ is found in us. Hallelujah!!!
2 Corinthians 10 vs. 6 buttresses this by saying we can only punish or deal with disobedience when our obedience is complete.
As we engage in spiritual warfare and confront the darkness of this age, let us keep these thoughts in mind and ensure that the same mind and attitude found in our Lord Jesus Christ, is found in us. This is the guarantee for victory.
God bless you.
