The Turmoil… REACH OUT!

That constant itch inside

Tried everything you know

Nothing seems to assuage it

Binging on show after show after show

Immersed in every social media experience

Several bottles of your most favorite of brews

Combinations of your most potent of substances till your life is hanging by a thread

Locked in cages much deeper than any lockdown can impose

A huge crises of identity rages within

Persuasions within asking if it is even worth continuing

Life in its temporality emphasized by the storm inside

The sun shines bright outside

Thick clouds of darkness inside

You cannot continue to struggle while drowning

You cannot untie those weights alone

There is HOPE and PEACE like you have never experienced

On George Floyd… The Journey to a Frozen Heart

A portrait of George Floyd by Nikkolas Smith Credit: Nikkolas Smith

“But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.” – ‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭3:1-5‬ ‭NIV‬‬

I wish there was a way I could un-watch (if there is a word like that) that video. It is one of the most heartbreaking things I have ever watched. The worst so far this year.

As a doctor, I have watched people die. They passed as we were trying our best to keep them alive but this really was too much to watch.

To watch someone who had taken an oath to serve and protect take a helpless life without any trace of remorse is inexplicable.

Cold and wicked. If there is anything colder than ice, it is your wicked heart! You held the man down after you had handcuffed him, and he was crying that he could not breathe for several minutes and you did not budge.

Your fellow rascals just stood there and did nothing to stop you! The people who were watching you do this called out to you but your ears were stuffed with the wax of wickedness flowing from your frozen heart!

He was on the ground already, the lowest he could ever be, and you made sure he would never get up again!

How could you not hear the cry of a dying man?

How do you get to that point that you discard training and natural human kindness to snuff out the life of someone you were supposed to protect, no matter what he had done?

The man cried out for his mother as he was dying but your brain was too addled by animosity and prejudice to even comprehend!

Oh my God! What a mess!!!

If you are reading this, what is the state of your heart? That police officer (who is not worthy of a mention) probably did not begin like that. His heart did not start that cold. At a point in his life, his journey to a frozen heart started…

Are you on that same journey? The journey to a frozen heart?

You may not be in law enforcement. Maybe you are like that one who refused to leash her dog but rather called the police, feigning ‘damsel in distress’ to achieve what exactly? You may be the man who found an 18-year old girl alone in a shop and raped her! Or, the ones who found a young girl reading alone in a Church (of all places) and raped and killed her!

Whose ‘neck’ are you ‘kneeling’ on? Whose cry for help are you deliberately ignoring? Who are you wickedly taking advantage of? Who have you wickedly abused and put an almost indelible mark of terror, anguish, and sorrow upon their lives?

Check your heart! What are your kindness levels? What are your ears stuffed with? How far down that road have you gone? Are you still part of decent humanity?

Your heart does not suddenly become that cold. No, it starts little by little until you cross that threshold where you can no longer control yourself or your actions.

I hope and pray earnestly that justice is done in all these cases! I earnestly pray that George Floyd’s death and everything going on right now will not be in vain! I earnestly hope that we can put all these things behind us (with justice done) for all time… (Hmmmmm…)

On my knees…

Submission is the Key

“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

— ‭‭Philippians‬ ‭2:5-11‬‬

It really is a joke to try and use the name of Jesus, especially in spiritual warfare, without exhibiting the same kind of humility and submission Christ exhibited.

No wonder other translations use the word ‘should’ to denote the response to the use of The Name.

No wonder the Apostle starts the section by saying that we should have the same mind as was in Christ. That mind that counts self, position, and privilege as nothing, but is completely submitted and obedient to the will and purposes of God, the Father.

Submission is key to the use of The Name.

Submission resulted in the name being exalted in the first place. The knees will start bowing and tongues confessing when the same mind and attitude which was found in Christ is found in us. Hallelujah!!!

2 Corinthians 10 vs. 6 buttresses this by saying we can only punish or deal with disobedience when our obedience is complete.

As we engage in spiritual warfare and confront the darkness of this age, let us keep these thoughts in mind and ensure that the same mind and attitude found in our Lord Jesus Christ, is found in us. This is the guarantee for victory.

God bless you.

You Are Wonderful…

Just listening to this song as I write this: “We give You glory Lord as we honor You… You are wonderful, You are worthy o Lord…

Just a moment of reflection and looking back down the years of life.

Indeed, You have been wonderful. What more can I say. Everything I can give to You, You are worthy of it all and even so much more than I can give.

Awe-inspiring God! Full of wonder, yes You are!

You are wonderful, You are worthy…
